Start A Reading Classic Team!
Reading Classic began in 1989 as a literacy event sponsored by the Nebraska State Reading Association to promote reading. In 2015, a Reading Classic Committee was formed to promote and encourage Nebraska Schools to form teams and help recognize outstanding young readers.
Teams throughout the state compete at County and State competitions to answer comprehension questions about the books from their division list. Books for the reading lists are chosen with input from team members, coaches, and committee input. The list includes award-winning books such as Caldecott, Newbery, and Golden Sower.
Division I is for 3rd and 4th grades,
Division II is for grades 5th and 6th,
and Division III is for grades 7th, 8th, and 9th.
